K.J. Holmes

About This Project

K.J. Holmes is a Brooklyn-based independent dance artist, singer, actor, educator traveling throughout the world performing and teaching at universities, festival’s and venues that range from theaters to site-specific spaces to living rooms. Collaborators include Simone Forti, Karen Nelson, Lisa Nelson/Image Lab, and Steve Paxton, poet Julie Carr, actor/performer Keith Biesack, and trumpeters Roy Campbell Jr. and Dave Douglas. Presented in NYC venues The Chocolate Factory, Danspace Project, DTW, Movement Research @ Judson Church, The Kitchen, PS122,  Vision Jazz Festival, Thalia/Symphony Space, Dixon Place.

A graduate of the School for Body-Mind Centering 1999, Satya Yoga 2007 and the William Esper Studio (Meisner acting/Terry Knickerbocker 2009), of which the play between is essential to her current practices. Adjunct faculty at NYU/Experimental Theatre Wing, Juilliard and Movement Research;  Performed with Miguel Gutierrez and the Powerful People (And lose the name of action); Mark Dendy (Ritual Cyclical); Lance Gries (Materials); Emily Johnson and Catalyst (Shore); Melinda Ring (Forgotten Snow); Xavier Le Roy’s Retrospective at PS1:MoMa; The Works of Steve Paxton at DIA:BEACON; Fay Simpson (The Veterans’ Project); Brody Condon (Untitled).

Movement Research Artist in Residence 2012 began her new dance/theater work HIC SVNT DRACONES.
